Interior Design and Decoration Short Course ...
This is an intensive - but very enjoyable - course taught to a semi-professional level, near Guildford in Surrey. It looks at the principles of design and decoration in some detail, and takes place in a stunning period property decorated in a classic contemporary style, so best practice is illustrated with visual examples. Everyone leaves with an A3 portfolio showcasing their
work and as numbers are kept low, this can be part-personalised. You also
receive a certificate.
The courses run in the spring (March/April) and the autumn (October mainly) and are taught over 3 concentrated days. Everything is carefully structured to ensure quality results in minimum time, and standards are high, but the approach is friendly and kind with no assumed knowledge... so novices are as welcome as those with experience.
The course forms a firm foundation for those wanting a more professional finish in their own home; as an add on to an existing business; or as a route into the world of interior design. The portfolio can be used to renovate a home, taken to interviews, or be used for self-employment. It is ideal for those who donít feel they need a longer course
or prefer tuition to distance learning. It costs £525 in total (£160 a day including lunch with an extra £45 to cover the cost of the
equipment which retails at nearer £80: Black fabric portfolio case, art sleeves, mount board, scale ruler, specialist colour wheel from America etc). A summary of the course content is as follows:
The key elements of good design including space planning ∑
∑ The professional route to design with mood, fabric and furniture
boards (including a clever short-cut) ∑ Colour and pattern ∑ Lighting ∑ Stylising a room for quality and originality.
